However, we also understand that transferring large amounts of files, or multiple websites from one server to another is a tough, and often an aggravating experience. So, for all new shared and reseller hosting customers currently using cpanel on their current host, we will move your site(s) for you at NO CHARGE*. Here is a step by step guide on how to change from your old host to PlanetHTTP. Moving between web hosting providers is not difficult and can be accomplished with minimal hassle and downtime provided certain steps are followed in order. Clients changing hosting services are usually already frustrated and unsatisfied at some level with web hosting. We hope that this guide will serve as a road map to a hassle free and successful web hosting experience moving forward with us.

Make sure that you have a full working copy of your website files, databases, cgi scripts, etc. stored on your computer. Download or record any pertinent email address settings, passwords, log file data, statistic reports, etc. from your current host.

Order your new PlanetHTTP web hosting package. Save and print the welcoming email which you will receive, and/or send this email to your web designer. This email will contain all the information you will need to get your new hosting service up and running.

Modify/Transfer your domain name to use PlanetHTTP Name Servers (or custom nameservers for resellers) as stated in the welcoming email. It may take up to 24-72 hours for these settings to propagate around the world but during this time you will still have access to your account via an IP address.

Using your new IP address; upload (ftp) your website files to your new service, install and configure any databases, scripts, etc. Setup your email accounts. Test your website by using the IP address.

Double-check the email settings in your email software to make sure your settings work with the new service. The email settings you need to use can be found in the welcoming email.

Cancel service with your previous host provider. Make sure they remove your domain name from their DNS servers.

Your new hosting service is now fully operational, welcome to PlanetHTTP.

Origin server must be running a current version of cPanel/WHM, otherwise we will transfer only files via FTP (no email, databases or other account settings). Account transfers will be done overnight, Eastern Time / GMT -5. Client must be able to provide origin username, password & domain name/IP address for old web server. Transfers are not guaranteed.
